horrifying moments on a metrobus tonight. a mother is shot and killed. her daughter is wounded. i'm bruce johnson, thanks for joining us. a woman was shot tonight on board a metrobus. it happened as the woman was getting on the bus with the young daughter injured during the shooting. matt jablo joins us live. how did it all happen? >> reporter: it's a terrible story as you said. a woman and her young daughter

get on a bus early this evening in southeast washington, but only one of them get out alive. >> it's sad, i don't understand. >> reporter: it happened near the intersection of 18th street and minnesota avenue in southeast washington. >> it's a pretty quiet neighborhood. never had a problem. >> reporter: that's where the police chief says that a woman was getting on a bus with her young daughter. >> the child believed to be under the age of three. >> when a man came up behind them. >> once they got on the bus, a male subject followed close behind her and opened fire into the bus. >> reporter: the woman was hit several times and pronounced dead on the bus. >> it looked like she was targeted. >> reporter: while the woman's daughter may have been grazed by a bullet was rushed to the nearby hospital. >> there's some sort of a wound to the baby. >> reporter: long-time residence here. >> i've been living on this corner here raising my corner. >> reporter: said they were absolutely stunned by the

nation held their breath when it happened. now you can let out somewhat of a big sigh of relief. a redskins spokesperson tonight said that the mri results on rg3's knees -- knee were negative. it's a knee sprain. here is the play you see him limping there. he tries to go down, but couldn't finish the drive. a back-up qb comes on in to save the day with this touchdown pass. and then he ran the two-point conversion himself to tie the game. and the left tackle as they said after the game that cousins was cool, calm, collected in that huddle. >> i could see he was limping after the second big completion. and i didn't know what to do, i

a friend and a teammate. >> they plan to hold a memorial for jerry brown on tuesday. a convenience store is robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight today. two employees were inside the southwest d.c. time at that time. showing us the surveillance tape and report that you'll only see here on 9. >> so he told you to get down on the ground like that? >> yeah. >> and you're thinking that you're going to get shot? >> yeah. >> reporter: shortly after abdul opened up his family business, the store around 8:00 on sunday morning, a man storms in waving a gun. the crook tells him to get down on the ground. you can see him then run off. a second man enters the store as he is putting on gloves with a red backpack so he could stuff the money and cigarettes he's about to steal.

his cousin opens up -- opens up the register for them. the owner had been in the process of making these upgrades to their security with the bullet proof glass and the door has not been put on yet. all of these addions, because they had been robbed before. last december that is. he says that two men robbed them last year around christmas. he doesn't believe that the same man hit them twice, but he says he comes to work, hears the familiar door open. not knowing if his life will be threatened again. >> i'm okay now. >> reporter: in southeast, surae chinn, 9news. >> and they said that the suspects are still at large tonight. a member of a u.s. special operations team has been killed during a weekend rescue mission in afghanistan. the mission freed the doctor abducted by the taliban just five days ago. president barack obama praised the special forces on sunday,

possible signs of movement today in the fiscal cliff debate. they met privately at the white house this afternoon. their first meeting since mid- november. and also today, talk of a compromise on a political talk show. he and other republican senators, they would consider raising the top tax rates for

the wealthiest americans they believe that a compromise would be reached. >> i think we will get a deal. i think everyone realizes how important it is. our economy is moving up some. not fast enough, but just some. to be going over that cliff is just terrible. i think we will get an agreement. >> there is a growing group of folks looking at this, realizing we don't have a lot of cards as it relates to the tax issue. we have one house, that's it. i actually think that it has merit where you go in and give the president the 2% increase that he's talking about. the rate increase on the top two percent. >> just three weekremain on the countdown clock before 90% of the americans will go up as a series of the tax hikes and the spending cuts take effect unless congress agrees on a new

>> a tsa employee was riding with another tsa employee when her estranged husband followed them into the parking lot, at which time the strange husband rammed the vehicle, got out of the vehicle, fired approximately five shots into the vehicle hitting his wife. the male, the other male that was in the vehicle was able to get out of the vehicle and was chased by the estranged husband who fired several shots at them. and he was not injured. >> the man's wife worked as a security officer of that airport. a woman from this area is struck and killed by a fire truck in kentucky. police say that the 27-year-old from the district was hit in downtown lexington by a fire truck that was not on an emergency call. the fire engine was on their way to a hospital to pick up the crew, but their lights and siren were not activated. tonight, police are reviewing the surveillance camera footage to determine what they were doing when she was struck.

tonight, howard county police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in the woods near the 9000 block of route 1 in maryland. no obvious signs of foul play, but detectives continue to investigate tonight. a man called 911 around 4:00 this afternoon after walking near the woods and seeing the body. police believe that it may be that of a woman in her 40s reported missing a few weeks ago by a friend. investigators believe she may have been homeless. just ahead on 9news now this sunday night, residence are digging out of a powerful winter storm tonight. in this area with the weekend rain turns to dry skies and warmer temperatures this week, eric is back with the full forecast.

rain fell across our area for much of the day. folks in wisconsin were digging out tonight from nearly a foot of snow. powerful winter storms are making for a tough driving condition on highways there. residence are being warned about strong wind gusts overnight. >> a blizzard. >> yes. hopefully they are not headed here. >> no, not in our forecast. that's for sure. in fact, it is just going to be really mild over the next 24 hours or so and then big changes, they are in the forecast with a cold front on the way. let's take a look right now at live doppler radar. because we do have one pocket of heavier rain that will be moving through st. maries counties. moving into the bay. but besides that, we're pretty

much in the clear. it's just fog and mist out there. you can see that on the michael and son weather cam. this is a live shot from on top of the wusa building. 48 degrees right now, dew point is also at 48. we have fog out there. the visibility is reduced. we'll burn off the fog pretty quickly as we head into the mid- morning hours because of a southerly breeze helping to scour out that moisture. a chance for thunderstorms late in the day tomorrow behind that frontal system, a cool down in your forecast. four days to the north. 48 in d.c. and andrews. that's about as warm as it's going to get, but with the fog in place, temperatures, they are not going to get much

cooler overnight tonight. the fog helps them from dropping. right now zero in manassas, andrews, culpepper. one mile visibility in martinsburg to baltimore. a really bad night to be out on the roads. so keep in mind it's that monday morning commute that might be tough because of the foggy areas. the cold front is on the way. we won't see much of this activity helping to time out the arrival of more of these showers. that will be near hagerstown around lunchtime. the cold front will start to move through right around dinner time, the best chance for a thunderstorm that we have in our forecast that all starts to slide to the south as we head into monday evening. then on tuesday we'll start to dry out. fog and drizzle, very mild for

december though. 42, 48 your overnight lows, keeping all the moisture and also any temperature that we had, any warmth during the day in place for the overnight hours. the morning though, temperatures in the 40s and the 50s. that breeze is helping to bring in a little more heat and then it will be very warm for this time of the year as we head into the afternoon. mostly cloudy, but a chance for a few thunderstorms that are mixing in with showers. right around dinner time, the best chance that we're going to see any thunderstorm activity. so we need to go with that yellow alert tomorrow for a chance. tuesday though, cooler and breezy with the high of 51. going with the green alert here and wednesday also green with a chance for the showers and the high of 48 degrees. in your seven-day forecast, we're going to keep it dry for the most part after getting past tomorrow night's cold front. and the temperatures, they would have started to rebound just a little bit. wednesday is the coolest day in
